DO I WANT A BOY OR A GIRL? WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
GIRLS.......
In the dog pack makeup, females usually are the boss, determine pecking order, and decide who competes to maintain and/or alter that order. Females are more independent, stubborn, and territorial than males. Females exercise dominance by Alpha behaviors such as 'humping'. Most fights are between two girls.
Girls tend to be more dignified or reserved, but really loving and emotional. While she will come to you for attention, she will also leave when she's had enough! While girls are less distracted during training, they are also eager to get on with whatever is her comfort zone like a cozy bed. She wants it over with!
She is less likely to wage a dominance battle with you, but she is also cunning, resorceful and determined to get her own way, more stubborn than boys. One day she may be sweet and affectionate, the next reserved, withdrawn or grumpy. Girls go into heat unless they are spayed which is really, really messy and requires diapers. The term 'bitch' refers directly to those female behaviors. Need I go on?
BOYS............
Boys are MORE affectionate, exhuberant, attentive, and more demanding of attention. They are attached to their people. They are stedfast, reliable, and LESS MOODY than females.
Boys are more outgoing, more acceptable of other pets and take quicker to kids.
Most boys are easily motivated by food and praise and did I say food? Training is easier than girls, however, because boys want to please, but also, boys are easily distracted and rowdy, rowdy and ruff house. They like to play and no matter what age, act silly, clumsy and puppy-like. They love to play games and be fun-loving!!
